I’m Simone, the filmmaker behind 6ixb Productions.
I make films for people and organisations with something meaningful to say. Stories about our oceans, wildlife, science, conservation and the environment are at the heart of what I do, but I’m interested in any story that has the power to make people feel something, see something differently, or simply care a little more.
My journey into filmmaking started with a single film.
In 2021, I made Seat 6B, a small personal project that unexpectedly changed the direction of my career. I had originally come from a photography background, but making that film made me realise that storytelling through moving images was where I wanted to be.
I went on to study Film at Falmouth University, graduating in 2026, and along the way gained experience across directing, producing, cinematography and post-production.
More recently, I’ve been developing documentary work that brings together my love of filmmaking and the natural world. Into the Blue, my film about marine biologist Kelsey-Michelle O’Shaughnessy and her connection with the ocean, is one example of the kind of work I love to create. I’m currently developing Microplastics: Beyond the Gut, exploring Kelsey’s research into the effects of microplastics on sharks.
How I work
I believe the best films start with listening.
Before thinking about cameras, shots or editing, I want to understand the people, the purpose and the story behind a project. From there, I look for the moments that are genuine, engaging and visually compelling.
My films are cinematic, but never at the expense of authenticity. Whether I’m filming in the field with a researcher, documenting conservation work, telling a brand story or capturing an event, my aim is always the same: to create something that feels honest and leaves an impression.
Working with Ben
Ben and I first met in 2020, when he bought a camera lens from me. He had recently graduated from Falmouth University with a First in Film & Television and, after hearing about the photography project I was working on to help teenagers and young adults build their confidence, he offered to make a short promotional film for it.
We became friends and kept in touch through the pandemic, and in 2021 we made Seat 6B, a 6-minute short drama featuring two young adults who had taken part in the confidence-building project. It was my first idea for a film, and Ben helped me turn it into something real. He filmed, co-directed and edited the project, and that experience played a big part in setting me on the path I’m on now.
Years later, we found ourselves working together again on Into the Blue, and the rapport was still there. Ben has also been behind the camera on Microplastics: Beyond the Gut, bringing the same calm, collaborative approach to the shoot.
We work well together, trust each other creatively, and somehow seem to fall back into the rhythm of filmmaking very easily. I’m hoping there will be plenty more 6ixb projects with Ben behind the camera in the future.
